How we compare uptime monitoring tools

We make Fettle, and we also publish comparisons, alternatives round-ups and a round-up of uptime monitoring tools. This page is how the figures on those pages are collected, what a mark next to a figure means, and where Fettle sits in a list. The last full pass over every competitor was on 2026-10-25.

Where do the competitor figures come from?

From each vendor's own pages: the pricing page first, then its documentation. Every figure is stored with the address of the page it was read from and the day it was read, and the page that prints the figure links that address. We do not use review sites, other comparison pages, or comments hidden in a page's source. A claim we cannot show on the vendor's own page is left out.

  • Read off a public page. Printed as it stands, with the link.
  • Captured inside the product. A figure the vendor shows only in its app. It carries a note saying so and the day we saw it.
  • Our own arithmetic. A total the vendor does not print, such as a per-monitor price times fifty, is marked as ours.
  • Not published. When a vendor says nothing, the cell says "Not published", never a guess. "Not offered" is kept for a limit the vendor states itself.
  • Not independently verified. A figure we found but could not confirm on the vendor's own page, for example behind a page that refuses automated readers. It is flagged in place: confirm it before deciding.

Prices are compared on one basis: the monthly rate when billed annually, with the monthly-billed rate next to it where the vendor prints one.

How often are the figures re-checked?

Once a quarter, every three months, and again whenever a comparison page, an alternatives page or the blog round-up is edited. Each page prints the day its figures were read, and a column that could not be re-read in the latest pass keeps its older date and says so, rather than taking the newer one. The last two full passes over the tools we profile were on 2026-10-25 and 2026-08-25. Vendors change prices without notice, so check theirs before you buy.

Where does Fettle sit in a list?

Outside the ranking. On a round-up, Fettle has its own block, marked as ours, apart from the numbered list of other tools, so its position in that list is never a verdict. Its figures come from the same plan data as our pricing page. Where another tool covers more ground than Fettle, such as more check locations per interval, the page says so.

Found a figure that is out of date?

Email support@fettle.sh with the page and the vendor's link, so we can re-read it.
